Winter is a test, not a season of downtime
The difference between good and bad equipment shows up not on the day you buy it but during the first hard winter. A car wash designed for a mild climate turns into a source of breakdowns at −30 °C. A properly built station keeps working in the same conditions, because the cold is engineered into it rather than left to luck.
What has to be heated
It is not the car wash as a whole that freezes but specific units where water and electronics are. Three key heated zones:
On BRIZ stations the terminal heater is built into the housing: behind the payment module and the controls there is a heating element that keeps the electronics at working temperature while it is below zero outside.
The equipment was designed for a Siberian winter, not for average conditions. That is the difference between working all year and working seasonally.
What breaks without preparation
The most expensive winter failure is water frozen in a pump or a pipeline. Next on the list: electronics failing in an unheated terminal, burst hoses, and stalled chemical dosing pumps (cold water dissolves the concentrate poorly). All of this can be repaired, but repairs take time, and a weekend of downtime in the cold sends customers to competitors.
Why a car wash earns more in winter
In winter the roads are treated with de-icing chemicals, salt and grime hit the body non-stop, and a car has to be washed more often than in summer. For a car wash that keeps running this is the best season: traffic grows exactly when poorly prepared competitors stand idle. Winter-ready equipment is therefore not a cost but an investment into the most profitable part of the year.
How to get ready for winter
Before the season you check the heating in every zone, the condition of hoses and nozzles, the concentration and the feed of the chemicals, the drainage and the water run-off. A scheduled check in autumn costs incomparably less than an emergency repair in January — and unlike a breakdown, it can be put in the calendar.

Does a car wash work in winter?
Yes, if the equipment is rated for frost. BRIZ works down to −35 °C: heating of the terminal, the pump room and the pipes keeps water from freezing and the electronics from failing.
Why do car washes break down more often in winter?
The cause is not the frost but the preparation: weak heating, unprotected pipes, equipment built for a warm climate. Water frozen in a pump is the most expensive failure of all.
Is winter a slow season?
Quite the opposite: de-icing chemicals make people wash their cars more often. With equipment in good order, winter is one of the most profitable seasons.
